Hello! This is Nita Campbell Schou's grandson. I never had the pleasure of meeting my grandma, but I know all of you did. I would love if anyone could reach out to me to tell me about her. Even the smallest story. She died when my mother was young, so even my mom doesn't have many stories about her. I'd love to learn more.  Thank you! My email is nlurquin@gmail.com

I can\'t believe no one has signed the guest book for a long time. I want to thank everyone that attened the mini reunion, we had a good time. Also thank all of you that called or sent cards to thank Bob and I. We love doing it.

I have been doing research for a family history I am writing.  I came across a note in The Sycamore True Republican that I thought classmates might find interesting.  It said that the Victor Bergquists (Dick Bergquist\'s family) had sold their home on North Maple Street and were moving to Sherman Oaks, CA.  Victor had taken a job as treasurer for Capitol Records of Hollywood, CA.

comment by Joe Peplow

For those who missed the reunion, I looked  at your names and thought of each of you hoping you are in good health and enjoying life. We have been having a "mini reunion" every year lately out at Bob and Alta\'s comfortable getaway so watch the website. It is always a guaranteed good time - surprise us and drop by! Do send Jack pictures of you and your families - if we can\'t see you in person, pictures will have to do.Joe

Just a thought: Reunions are times to see old classmates and share memories from over the years. We learn that not everyone remembers the same things from events from long ago, but we all have our own memories from our places in time. Each of us from the class of 1956 should be getting these memories down on paper now since we have all become aware that we are all on borrowed time. Our memories of Sycamore, the place and the people, is part of the towns history. I see a book named "Memories of the class of 1956" - a compilation of the various sections of this website. After each bio, whatever memories you can add that aren't already here in Reflections, Then and Now, would be added. Right now this is all electronic, the compilation would also be in a one copy form for the library. We each have a story to tell and some of the memories that come up in a reunion should be put on paper. We all have found that retirement can get very busy but taking the time to chronicle our unique memories would be a reflection of the people and town where we  grew up. Start writing!

The history of music site is a good lesson on where the music that we know as STANDARDS came from.Take a look, it is well worth your time.  Make a shopping list of songs to add to your collection and go to iTunes! As always, "thanks Jack" for such an entertaining informative website.Joe

I am the daughter of Ronald Bowman. When my father left Illinois in the early 70's, he never looked back. He only returned to Illinois on 1-2 occasions after that day. It was hard to live without my father. My heart was broken when he left Illinois as I was very a very young girl and didn't understand why he left. Long distance from your children is never a good idea. However, I am very thankful for the times I did have with him & the memories we made. Thank you to Jack Lindstrom for reaching out to me & my father in Florida last year. I'm certain it meant alot to my dad.

comment by Kelly A. Lindstrom-Derby

Wow this is a wonderful web site, I am kelly, Jack Lindstroms daughter, I really hope the class of '79 can hold a candle to this site, very well done, Good Job!

I've traveled the world and lived in some wonderful places, but isn't it funny how the memories of growing up in a really nice small town like Sycamore resonates so strongly that those memories seem like they happened just yesterday.  Sycamore will always be home for me.  I'm 60 years old now.  Class of 1967.  I remember the kidnapping of Maria Rudolph when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade - I recall the centenial celebration when many of the men grew beards - Sycamore Park and Locust Street were my playground.  Family was born - and died in Sycamore.  Some still live there.  Maybe I'll go home someday too.

Who else was in the kindergaten morning class at Central School? There has to be someone hopefully ,who has a class picture in the family archives -- it was only 73 years ago! Kenny Davey and I were in it and I just found out Sandy was in that class. Kenny and I were "disciplined" for trying to kiss some girls. The classroom was in the southeast corner of the 1st floor.

hello classmates 1956.I spent alot of time and really enjoyed all the pictures; changes in clothes and hairstyles and yes, the growing years tell their own story without words.  I will go back to one of the sad sights another day.  This is much appreciated and has taken much time to prepare.Thank you

Another great gathering of us "old people with young hearts" at Alta and Bob\'s. The rain came and went before the party started and there was no dust on the lane coming to the "cabin". God bless all of you!Joe

comment by Alta Hough

Thanks again Jack for all you do for our class, without you we would not have this wonderful website. We are back from Texas and good to be home. Alta

comment by Joe Peplow

Our website is a treasure and we are all indebted to Jack. This is story of a class in a town named Sycamore, that we called home in our youth and some fortunate classmates still call it home. I wish there were a way to package it up to share with those who don't have a computer. Again, we all have some time on our hands (except my dear friend Sandy Hill who keeps on the move every day) so get your memories and thoughts down on paper - you all have something to share. For those without computers, letters can be sent to Jack.

thanks for this site Jack. Keep e-mails coming. I am realizing precious memories these days. My husband of 54 years passed away last year. Many of you have had the same losses. I continue to enjoy tennis and my kids and grandkids every chance I can.  Have gone back to spending hours with a paint brush. Love the cabin in N.C mts. and winter in Chokoloskee Fl.  I well remember the halls of the old school and the young faces there.

Although I am a 1978 graduate of SHS, I wanted to "check in" with all of you.  I have enjoyed visiting your website and looking at all of the pictures and memories you have preserved and showcased so well.  Sycamore was and still is a fantastic community.  I visit when I can, as I have many fond memories of growing up there.  Every kid should be so lucky to get the chance to grow up in Sycamore.I especially enjoyed reading your section about Pete Johnson.  I agree... he was and still is an extrordinary man.  My father Don and I enjoy reflecting about the great times, the special times of our lives we spent in Sycamore... Pete\'s name always comes up as do  many others.  Pete was a mentor and role model to my father, myself, and all of us who knew him.  Thank you Pete!Cogratulations for the honor Pete, that you so deserve and you will receive this weekend.  And thank you for caring, your leadership, and generosity to all of us in Sycamore over the many years.

What an honor it is to say that Pete Johnson was my high school principal from 1976-1980.  It is so nice for them to be doing this statue in his honor.Felicia (Henne) OwensClass of 1980

Dear Classmates:  In case you haven't noticed, we have had nearly 41,000 hits on our class website.  Not bad for a class of 96 people (right now we are down to 75 living grads).  I've seen many class websites and I can honestly say none is as good.   We have Jack Lindstrom to thank.  It was his brainchild and he has nutured it for nearly a decade.  Clearly it has been a labor of love for Jack. Jack's birthday is coming up on June 14th.  He'll be 77.  I hope you will join me at that time to say Happy Birthday to Jack and to thank him for his remarkable work on the class website.

In response to a Christmas card from Karen and Bud I told them about my extended stay at the hospital which was  why I didn\'t get cards out this year them . Karen told Jack and then the emails started coming. Thank you dear friends, and never underetimate the power of the internet. Knee replacements are going on everyday without problems but every now and then there is a bump in the road. During that 10 days in the hospital I managed to shed 12 lbs - now to keep it off!. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!

Cold, rainy, cloudy, repeat, day after day. We will go home to Sycamore in April sometime.  WE shop.eat, watch tv, i do my puzzles & then we repeat the process.  Exciting.  Waiting for good weather so we can go to San Antonio.  Take care.  Mary & Pat

Take some time and look at the archives of the True Republican site that Jack has published. I have been looking at the war years issues and seeing the names of the young men and women who were in uniform.  The locals and personals, the advertisements -- 2, 3, then 4 digit phone numbers, prices of clothing and other consumer goods,  lots of history . Take a look!

My brother, Brad, shared your site with me and I wanted to thank you for sharing information about our mother, Juanita Campbell Schou.  I truly got tears in my eyes reading the tributes to her and her other classmates who have also passed away.  It is very special to me to "see" how my mom was through the eyes of others.  Even though I lost her when I was 12, almost 38 years ago, I continue to miss her every day.  Thank you for this wonderful website.

comment by Bradley Schou

I want to thank you very much for the information and pictures of my mother Juanita “Nita” Campbell Schou. It is great to read the story from Nancy Niewold about her memories of my mother and their time at Sycamore High School and after. My mother died when I was very young (7 years old) and reading about her helps to fill in information that I never knew. If other classmates of my mother have stories or pictures my sister and I would be very grateful to hear from you.
